Markdown, minus the markup
Markless
A native markdown editor with no syntax in sight. Your files stay plain .md on disk — in the app you only ever see the beautiful part. No hash marks, no asterisks, ever.
The magic detail
The caret never touches a hash mark.
Put your cursor in a heading and there's no # to fight past — just the styled words. Bold, italic, links, inline code: all live as you type, none of the markup ever showing. You write; it looks right.
Portable by design
It's always just a .md file.
The prettiness lives in the editor, never in the file. On disk it's plain, portable GitHub-flavored markdown — open it in any other editor, commit it to git, hand it to anyone. Your words outlive any one app, this one included.
A writing home
Lists, tables, callouts, code — all behaving.
Return continues a list; an empty Return leaves it; Tab indents. Tables you actually Tab through. Note, Tip, Warning and Caution callouts a keystroke away. Fenced code that keeps its syntax literal. Everything a real document needs — styled, quiet, and out of your way.
Now with math
Math, set properly.
Formulas are text, not pictures. Type $E = mc^2$ and it typesets itself the moment you close the dollar sign — no preview pane, because there's nothing to preview. The document is the rendered thing.
- Typeset natively — no browser engine, no network, no JavaScript.
- Works exactly like bold always has: type the shorthand, get the real thing, never see the syntax again.
- Get the LaTeX wrong and it stays visible until you fix it — nothing vanishes without telling you.
Inline, in a sentence
Energy is $E = mc^2$, exactly.
Energy is E = mc2 , exactly.
Display, on its own line
$$\int_0^\infty e^{-x}\,dx = 1$$
∫∞0 e−x dx = 1
Tables you can touch
Tables, without the dialog box.
Click into a table and small grips appear along its edges. Reach toward a boundary and a + shows up exactly there — one click inserts the column or row where you were already pointing. No menu, no dialog, no "before or after?" Point at a grip instead and it turns to a minus: click to remove.
- Tab and Shift-Tab move between cells; Return in the last row adds another.
- Press esc, or click away — a table is never a mode you're stuck in.
- Undo puts the table back and the cursor exactly where it was.
- Your tables save as ordinary GFM markdown — the same table any other editor reads.

Auf Deutsch
At home in German.
On a German Mac, Markless is German from first launch — no setting to find. Menus, settings, every dialog, and the entire handbook, written in German with German examples and its own shortcut tables. It reaches into your documents too: insert a table and the columns read „Spalte 1“.
